On April 4, 2019, Amazon announced that its Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) added six applications that transmit and receive consumer health information protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ASK is a collection of application programming interfaces, tools, documentation, and code samples which work to improve and individualize the cloud-based voice service offered by Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant device.
