AMA Supports Use Of Prescription Mobile Health Apps
The American Medical Association (AMA) members recently voted to support the use of prescription mobile health (mHealth) applications and devices, providing that the apps and devices are accurate, effective, safe to use, and that consumer data is protected. In November 2016, physicians voted during the AMA Interim Meeting to approve a list of principles to guide coverage and payment policies supporting the use of mHealth apps and associated devices.
The AMA will advocate for health plan coverage, payment, and financial incentive mechanisms for mHealth apps and associated devices, trackers, and sensors if the apps and devices meet the following principles . . .
