Alcohol Use Up & Alcohol Use Disorder Up Between 2002 & 2013
Between 2002 and 2013, the number of adults age 18 and older who drank alcohol at some point over the past 12 months increased by 11.2%. The prevalence of high-risk drinking increased by 29.9%. The percentage of adults reporting drinking any alcohol during the past 12 months increased from 65.4% in 2002 to 72.7% in 2013. Among those who drank alcohol during the past 12 months, the share of those reporting risky drinking behaviors (exceeding daily consumption guidelines at least weekly) increased from 9.7% in 2002 to 12.6% in 2013.
