ADHD Drugs Do Not Improve Cognition In Healthy College Students
Adderall, a prescription stimulant commonly used for attention-deficit/hyperactivitydisorder (ADHD), does not improve cognition in healthy college students, according to the outcomes of a double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study. Psychologically healthy students were randomly assigned to take Adderall and placebo. They were evaluated using standard medical tests, and seven neurocognitive measures and their performance on Adderall versus placebo was compared.
These findings were reported in "Neurocognitive, Autonomic, and Mood Effects of Adderall: A Pilot Study of Healthy College Students" by Lisa L. Weyandt, Tara L. White, Bergljot Gyda Gudmundsdottir, Adam Z. Nitenson, Emma S. Rathkey, Kelvin A. De . . .
