Opioid Treatment Admissions Up 10% & Alcohol Treatment Admissions Down 4% Between 2003 & 2013
Addiction treatment admission patterns for people age 12 and older in the United States have shifted from 2003 to 2013; the proportion of primarily alcohol-related admissions dropped by 4%, while the proportion of primarily heroin and prescription opioid-related admissions rose by 10%. Admissions for alcohol abuse dropped from 42% of the total 1.9 million admissions in 2003, to 38% of the total 1.7 million admissions in 2013, or 646,000 admissions in 2013.
