U.S. Couples Need $285,000 In Retirement Funds For Medical Expenses
A 65-year-old couple retiring in 2019 will need $285,000 for their out-of-pocket (OOP) medical care expenses, excluding long-term care, throughout their retirement lifetime. This represents a 2% increase from 2017 estimates, and approximately a 78% increase from an estimate of $160,000 in 2002. For single retirees, this year's retirement health care cost estimate is $150,000 for women and $135,000 for men.
