99% Of Italian COVID-19 Deaths Due To Hypertension, Diabetes & Heart Disease; Half Had Three Chronic Conditions
As of March 18, 2020, more than 99% of Italians who died of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) had hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, dementia, or history of stroke. About 48.5% of those who died from COVID-19 had three or more chronic illnesses, about 25.6% had two chronic illnesses, and about 25.1% had one chronic illness. Only 0.8% had no other conditions.
The overall fatality rate of persons with confirmed COVID-19 in the Italian population, based on data up to March 17, was 7.2%, representing 1,625 deaths out of 22,512 confirmed . . .
