9.5% Of Full-Time Workers In The United States Had Substance Use Disorder In The Past Year
An average of 9.5% of full-time workers (ages 18 to 64) experienced a substance use disorder during the past year, according to an analysis of national survey data from 19 industries between 2008 and 2012. In total, nearly 10.8 million full time workers experienced a substance use disorder in the past year. The rates of substance use disorder varied across the 19 industries. The highest rate of substance abuse (16.9%) was among workers in the accommodations and food services industry, representing 1.0 million people.
