Up To 70% Of Youth In Contact With Juvenile Justice System Have Mental Health Needs
Up to 70% of all youth in contact with the juvenile justice system in the United States have a diagnosable mental health disorder. More than 60% of youth in the juvenile justice system with a mental health disorder also have an addiction disorder. About 30% of youth in the juvenile justice system have serious mental health and/or addiction disorders requiring immediate and significant treatment. More than 600,000 youth are placed in juvenile detention centers annually. Juvenile correctional facilities have an average daily census of nearly 70,000 youth.
