Of Wisconsin Medicaid beneficiaries, about 52% of those aged 55 and over who have Down syndrome also have dementia claims (490 individuals of 938). Dementia claims include those for Alzheimer's disease, and any other dementia. Down syndrome is defined by trisomy of chromosome 21, the site of the amyloid precursor protein gene.
