During 2019, 26 states used federal funds to extend foster care to youth over the age of 18. Most, 25 states, offered supervised independent living (SIL) services for youth in extended foster care who share an apartment or home with a friend or roommate, while 24 offered SIL services to youth living in a private apartment or home.
