34% Of Foster Children Prescribed Psychotropic Drugs Receive Unsatisfactory Oversight
Approximately 24% of foster children in Iowa, Maine, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Virginia who were prescribed psychotropic drugs received unsatisfactory oversight. This includes treatment planning, medication monitoring, or both, as required by the states. Effective treatment planning offers a method for caseworkers, foster parents, and prescribers to be aware of medications the child is receiving. Effective medication monitoring can reduce the risk of inappropriate dosing or inappropriate combinations of medications.
