33% Of Adults With Intellectual Disabilities Employed; Half In Competitive Environments

About one-third of working age adults with intellectual disabilities are in the workforce and about half are working in a competitive, integrated environment. About nine percent of those who are working are also self-employed, and 38% work in sheltered workshops. The remaining two-thirds are not employed either because they cannot find a job, they have stopped looking, or they have a health condition or other barrier preventing them from working.
