32% Of Children In Foster Care Placed With Relatives Nationwide
Nationwide, 32% of children in foster care are placed with relatives. The rate varies widely across the states, from 4% in Kentucky to 47% in Montana. About 86% of all children in foster care are placed either with a relative or in a family foster home.
These findings were reported in “Keeping Kids in Families: Trends in U.S. Foster Care Placement” by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The authors analyzed data from 2007 through 2017 from child welfare systems across all 50 states and the District of Columbia to determine how placements for youth in foster care have changed . . .
