28% Of Opioid Deaths In Hennepin County, Minnesota Occurred With 12 Months Of Release From Jail
About 28% of opioid overdose deaths in Hennepin County, Minnesota occurred among people who had been released from jail within the past 12 months. In 2015 and 2016, there were 252 overdose deaths in the county during the 12 months post-release from a state, county, or other local correctional facility; and 71 (28%) were due to an opioid overdose; 47 deaths were due to alcohol, 21 were due to methamphetamine, and 15 were due to cocaine.
