Approximately 25% Of U.S. Adults Reported Having A Disability
About 25.7% of community-dwelling adults age 18 and older reported having a disability in 2016 that created a functional impairment, limitations on activities, or restrictions on participation. Among young adults ages 18 to 44, 16.6% reported having a disability. Among middle-age adults ages 45 to 64, 28.6% reported having a disability. Among adults age 65 and older, 41.7% reported having a disability.
Disability in this context included the following categories:
- Cognition: serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions. Average prevalence was 10.8%.
