25% Of Adults Report Having Three Or More Adverse Childhood Experiences
About 24.6% of adults report having three or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). ACEs include the eight categories of: physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, household mental illness, household substance use, incarcerated household member, parental separation or divorce, and household domestic violence.
These findings were reported in “Prevalence of Adverse Childhood Experiences From the 2011-2014 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System in 23 States” by Melissa T. Merrick, Ph.D.; Derek C.
