2.2% Of Older Adult Suicides Were Associated With Long-Term Care
Approximately 2.2% of the 47,759 suicides among adults age 55 and older were associated with residential long-term care settings. These individuals were at risk of transitioning to, or were living in a residential LTC setting, such as an independent or assisted living facility, or a nursing home.
In total, the 2.2% represented 1,037 suicide deaths associated with LTCs. About 43.3% of the deaths (449 individuals) involved a person transitioning into or out of an LTC setting, and nearly 41.3% (428 individuals) involved a person living in an LTC setting. The remaining 15.4 . . .
