18% Of New York Medicaid Costs Due To Excess Costs Of Consumers With Diabetes
About 18% of New York Medicaid costs are due to excess costs of care for people with diabetes. The excess diabetes costs total $13.4 billion annually, equaling an extra $15,366 per year per Medicaid consumer with diabetes in the state. This is the highest level of excess diabetes costs in the U.S. “Excess Medicaid diabetes costs” are defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the extra annual cost per Medicaid consumer with diabetes, compared to the annual cost for others on Medicaid.
