For 2018, 58 Medicare accountable care organizations (ACOs) are participating in the Next Generation model, 17 more than in 2017. The number of Next Generation ACO participants was posted on January 18, 2018, by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Innovation Center. ACOs in the Next Generation model assume higher levels of financial risk and reward than are available under the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) risk tracks. Compared to other ACOs, the Next Generation ACOs are eligible for waivers to Medicare rules that permit them to provide their attributed beneficiaries with a broader range of telehealth services . . .
