13% Of Medicare Advantage Plans Offer Family Caregiver Support As A New Supplemental Benefit, 3.4% Offer In-Home Support Services
Approximately 13% of Medicare Advantage (MA) plans offered new supplemental benefits for family caregivers in 2019. Among other new supplemental benefits, an estimated 3.4% of MA plans offered in-home support services. With the enactment of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 20185 (Budget Act) and new regulations issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), MA plans can now cover a wider array of extra benefits than was previously allowed. In addition, insurers now have greater flexibility to design and target those benefits beginning in 2020.
