Families Of Ohio I/DD Consumers Sue To Preserve The Right To Reject Community Placement
On September 14, 2018, a group of 12 Ohio family members/guardians of individuals with intellectual/developmental disability (I/DD) filed claims against the state of Ohio and Disability Rights Ohio (DRO). The family guardians seek to ensure that individuals with I/DD retain the right to placement in an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). The guardians have stated that they believe that it is in the individuals’ best interest to remain in an ICF, rather than transition to community-based housing and supportive services (HCBS). A trial is set for October 2019.
