13% of Students Receive IDEA Special Education Services

In the 2007-2008 school year, about 6.6 million children and youth aged three to 21 years old were enrolled in regular schools received special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). As a group, the 6.6 million represented about 13% of public school enrollment. Among students ages six to 21 years old receiving IDEA services, 95% were enrolled in regular schools.
