Health Reform Adds New Requirements for Tax-Exempt Hospital Organizations

The new health insurance reform law has imposed new reporting requirements on tax-exempt hospital organizations. The law has required hospitals to assess community health needs every three years; it also required hospitals to establish a financial assistance policy. The health insurance reform law also imposed limitations on the maximum charges for emergency or medically necessary care. Additionally, tax-exempt hospital organizations would be prohibited from using extraordinary collection actions before determining an individuals eligibility for the hospitals financial assistance policy.
