CMS Data Show Medicare ACO Programs Generated $237 Million In Savings During First Year
On January 30, 2014, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Medicare accountable care organization (ACO) initiatives generated savings of $273 million during the first 12 months in operation. About half (54) of the 114 Medicare Shared Savings Program ACOs that started operations in 2012 had lower expenditures than projected.
