Lawsuit Claims Oregon’s Sheltered Workshop System For IDD Consumers Violates ADA
On January 25, 2012, Disability Rights Oregon filed a complaint against the state of Oregon claiming that the state’s sheltered workshops for persons with developmental disabilities violate the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The complaint also notes that despite the state’s intentions to implement an Employment First policy, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) has failed to provide supported employment services and systematically segregates more than 2,300 state residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities who work in sheltered workshops.
