Federal Judge Upholds Health Care Subsidies Under PPACA

On January 15, 2014, a federal judge rejected a legal challenge to health insurance subsidies for low- and moderate-income people who purchased health insurance through the federal healthcare.gov insurance marketplace. The plaintiffs in the challenge said the technical wording of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) allowed subsidies only in the 14 states running their own exchanges, but not in the 36 states where the federal government runs the exchange.
