Offenders With Mental Illness Rank Housing, Not Community Based Treatment As A Top Reentry Priority
A survey of 115 inmates with serious mental illness (SMI) preparing for community reentry found that most identified housing, not entering community-based mental health treatment, as their top priority. Housing was cited by 63% as one of their top two priorities post-release, and financial assistance was cited by 35%. Arranging for mental health treatment was cited by 12% as one of their top two priorities.
