Aldebaran Introduces Humanoid Robot for Autism Treatment
On December 9, 2011, Aldebaran Robotics released a new version of its NAO service robot that can be programmed to provide social interaction skills training for children diagnosed with autism. The NAO Next Gen features Nuance, a new vocal recognition program with a “word spotting” function that enables the program to isolate and recognize specific words within sentences or conversation. The NAO Next Gen also possesses technology enabling the robot to receive two video streams, which improves its speed and performance in face- and object-recognition tasks under poor lighting conditions.
