Worldwide Dementia Estimated At 44 Million People In 2013
In 2013, an estimated 44 million people worldwide were living with dementia, up 25% from an estimated 35 million in 2010. The increase is attributed to better data on dementia prevalence rates in China and sub-Saharan African countries. Based on the new data, global dementia rates by 2050 are estimated to reach 135 million, 17% higher than the 115 million previously projected.
