Network Adequacy Doesn’t Equal Consumer Access
With all the complaints about access to mental health care, the current state of provider network requirements for Medicaid managed care plans do little to address the problem. Starting at the top, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has declined to provide more than general guidance on network adequacy. Specifically states are currently required to review managed care network adequacy and in 2018 will have to post time and distance standards online; however there is no regulations on what constitutes an adequate network.
