Medicaid Is The Largest Payer – Now What?
Medicaid is the largest source of public health coverage in the United States, with nearly 70 million covered Americans. This means that when it comes to financing, service delivery, care coordination, and performance metrics, Medicaid policies increasingly have broad implications for the health and human service system. As we look to where Medicaid is moving in the future, there are three megatrends that every organization in the field should take note of: increased use of managed care by Medicaid; increased Medicaid coverage of long-term care services and supports (LTSS); and Medicaid nursing home payment rate increases.
