2019 was a year when I saw “workforce issues” in almost every provider organization strategic plan—recruiting talent, keeping talent, making people productive, building new executive team competencies, and more. The “big picture” strategic issues were revenue declines due to high numbers of open clinical and service positions, margin compression due to the costs of turnover, and the inability to develop and sell new integrated and value-based program models due to lack of marketing and tech talent.
