The payer push for “integrated care coordination” – largely to address the needs of superutilizers – has rocked the world of “specialists” (see Are Superutilizers Your New Market? and Meeting The Superutilizer Challenge). Who has been affected? The answer is organizations providing targeted care management for consumers with behavioral disorders, service coordinators for consumers with developmental disabilities, case managers for foster children, disease management programs for chronic health conditions, and specialty managed behavioral health organizations (MBHOs).
