What a week in New Orleans! 300+ executives focused on the best path to positioning their organization for the future. We heard from payer executives, tech industry innovators, and service provider leaders about their take on what the future might hold. At the close, I lead a discussion Using Innovation To Your Strategic Advantage: Positioning Your Organization In A Shifting Market about the best path to planning for the future – a path that is dependent on two elements. The first, a vision (and concept) of your future market position and second, the management competencies and the leadership team to implement that vision.
Which leads to the question, do you have a vision? To quote one of my favorite books, Alice in Wonderland, “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there….” If you are one of those executives who think we don’t have enough information about the market to create that vision of future market positioning, I would disagree. Three important environmental factors are quite clear:
The changing relationships between payers, consumers, service delivery organizations, and clinical professionals (see A Vision For Improving Consumer Care all members).
The new value equation in health and human services – the new mix of benefit, brand, marketing strategy, and cost (see Implementing Your Strategic Vision: How To Move Your Organization From Plan To Action ).
How new science (brain science, genetics, telehealth, informatics) is realigning the “winning” value propositions (see From Vision To Practice: How To Successfully Incorporate Telehealth In Your Organization ).
In most markets, the trends in these areas are clear – and form the basis of creating the future vision that executive teams need to shape their future strategy. If you haven’t mapped your organization’s “future place”, now is the time.
