Research as shown that children who are frequently exposed to violence underperform in school, suffer from anxiety and depression, and have lower self-esteem than their peers – this much I knew. But according to an article that ran in Wired last month, How Abuse Changes a Child's Brain, "The brains of children raised in violent families resemble the brains of soldiers exposed to combat...."
When I read this, I think trauma. And despite what appears to be good news concerning lowered rates of child maltreatment (see U.S. Child Maltreatment Drops 16% Between 2006 & 2010 . . .
