Position Overview:

The Strategy Specialist will work closely with the Youth Villages’ Strategy, Business Planning and Policy (BPP), Marketing and Communications, Research, Finance, Legal, Strategic Partnerships (SP) and Leadership teams (including officers and directors) with a focus on supporting the organization’s growth and innovation.  Based in the Youth Villages’ Memphis headquarters, and reporting to the Director of Strategy and Special Projects (Director), s/he will support facilitation of the jurisdictional annual planning process, assisting in identifying and analyzing potential growth opportunities.  S/he will also work on special projects as asked by the Director and other members of the leadership team.  This is a unique and high-growth opportunity for a passionate, mission-driven individual to have significant and national-scale impact on youth with emotional and behavioral health challenges.  This person needs to be mission-driven with a passion to serve.

Job Duties:

The Strategy Specialist will support the development of annual tactical plans at the jurisdiction level, as well as other ongoing department and organization work, as needed.  The projects fall into the following categories:

Jurisdictional Annual Planning

  • Assist in developing annual tactical plans for each Youth Villages’ state and Strategic Partner, including priorities, projections, and milestones
  • Ensure plans support Youth Villages’ National Strategic Plan Goals and leaders’ ability to reach census and finance goals
  • Conduct and manage market research and operational analysis to inform business plans, including stakeholder interviews, internal staff interviews, surveys, market analysis, and organizational analysis
  • Help coordinate and facilitate a broad range of stakeholders, including Youth Villages’ officers, state leaders, and business development leads
  • Support the plan development process with strong project management

National Strategic Planning and Innovation

  • Support Director and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) in developing annual updates to the National Strategic Plan
  • Assist in planning efforts for new or expanding services and other special projects

Internal Projects

  • Manage updates to BPP annual goals and scoreboard
  • Set up and manage updates in Asana for various projects
  • Draft emails and other communication for project updates
  • Assist with scheduling, agendas, and meeting materials, including taking meeting minutes
  • Assist in development of project management tools to be used across all projects
  • Data analysis and industry trends, including drafting key insights from analysis
  • Create and maintain data presentations for states
  • Support special projects as assigned by the Director, Managing Director of BPP, or CSO
  • Support national business planning or other strategic planning processes
  • Lead organizational improvement projects helping teams meet annual and national goals

(Travel: up to 10% of job time requires domestic travel)

Qualifications:

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree (required)
  • A master’s degree (strongly preferred in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, or related field)
  • Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) certification (strongly preferred)

Work Experience

  • 2-3 years strategic planning experience preferred (ideally in child welfare or healthcare industries)
  • 1-2 years consulting experience preferred (ideally in all areas of strategy development, business analysis, problem solving, financial modeling, and consensus building)
