Psychotherapy software start-up Woebot recently announced it has raised $8 million from series A funding. The funding demonstrates the potential for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the treatment of individuals’ cognitive behavioral therapy issues.
The bot—which is currently available on Facebook Messenger, as well as the software’s new iOS app—helps consumers to cope with mental illnesses such as depression. While the bot is not intended to replace human therapists, it does offer 24-7 support for consumers, allowing them to receive help during times when access to a human may be restricted or more difficult. The company plans on using the new funding to hire more employees, and to bolster the app’s design and AI expertise as it prepares for its launch on Android.
Woebot Labs, Inc. develops health care software. The Company offers a platform that makes therapy accessible and stigma-free for consumers suffering from anxiety, depression, and mental health issues.
