Tennessee To Delay Payment Reform Expansion

The Tennessee Medical Association (TMA) has successfully petitioned state officials to delay expanding the use of a value-based, episode-of-care health care payment model in commercial health insurance plans until after the upcoming enrollment year. The payment model is currently being tested under the Medicaid program, and will continue as scheduled this year.

The delays are in response to concerns regarding episode-of-care design, data collection, data reporting, and data accuracy. TMA is in support of value-based reimbursement, however the organization wants to see an accurate, fair, and transparent design and implementation.
