Leading pediatric health care system Stanford Children’s Health (Stanford) recently announced its plans to more than double the number of telehealth appointments it conducts in 2019. Specifically, the organization plans to increase its number of telehealth visits from 1,100—its 2018 number—to 2,500 in 2019.
Increasing such visits would help Stanford to continue helping families save time by not having to take their children out of school to travel to face-to-face appointments. Additionally, telehealth visits help provider organizations and clinical professionals see a greater number of health care consumers, as well as more conveniently fill in appointments that were cancelled at the last minute. Regarding the treatment of children, telehealth technology also allows clinical professionals to perform such tasks as observing children in their natural environments, giving them the information they need to provide more realistic evaluation and treatment.
Stanford Children’s Health is the only network in its area—and one of the few in the country—exclusively dedicated to pediatric and obstetric care. Its clinical professionals and health care teams offer comprehensive clinical services, from treatments for rare and complex conditions to well-child care at more than 60 locations.
