Portland InterHospital Physicians Association Forms Accountable Care Organization
As part of the Portland InterHospital Physicians Association (IPA), a group of 700 Portland doctors, both primary care and specialty, formed a new accountable care organization (ACO) called Care Connect Northwest. The IPA encompasses 2,800 doctors from all specialties. The new ACO seeks to improve and coordinate care for thousands of patients and to create a local structure for commercial and Medicare contracting. Portland IPA was formed in 1983 to support independent practices and help them remain independent. The Oregon Clinic, Women’s Healthcare Associates, Pacific Medical Group, and Providence Health and Services were among the clinics involved.
