New York City Child Welfare Commissioner Steps Down Amidst Child Deaths
New York City's Child Welfare Commissioner, Gladys Carrion, is stepping down after several vulnerable children under the city's supervision have died. Ms. Carrion was one of the first appointees under Mayor Bill De Blasio, and the third high-profile personnel change in the city's health and social services team. Apparent lapses in child protection investigations and limitations of the child welfare agency as a whole have prevented the overall goal of protecting and improving the lives of children. Agency reforms will likely accompany the recent personnel changes.
