Mount Sinai Health System has enhanced legal services already provided by lawyers from LegalHealth of New York Legal Assistance Group, Legal Aid, and Youth Represent to offer legal services to consumers who live well below the poverty line. The Mount Sinai Medical-Legal Partnership will work to resolve legal issues that are barriers to good health. These barriers exist in the form of social and environmental conditions that are rooted in legal issues, such as housing, education, personal safety, and access to health care.
Many of the lawyers on the team offer pro-bono services in areas such as:
- Legal services for consumers at Mount Sinai’s new Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery,
- Trust and estate planning for terminally ill consumers, and
- Legal services for consumers at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Roosevelt Children and Family Services who are at high risk of poor life outcomes.
