Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Creates Behavioral Health Crisis Response Team
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (BHD) to create a county Crisis Assessment and Response Team (CART). BHD is allocating $500,000 of its funding reserves for the effort. The CART pairs BHD mental health clinical professionals with law enforcement officers to respond to situations when an individual calls 9-1-1 and asks for mental health services or identifies that mental health symptoms may be present. The goal of the CART is to prevent unneeded emergency detentions.
