MetLife has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Versant Health, a managed vision care company, from an investor group led by Centerbridge Partners. Versant Health provides a wellness vision network, utilization management, and medical claims review through its Davis Vision and Superior Vision product lines. Following the acquisition, MetLife will gain access to Versant Health’s roughly 35 million members, and will become the third-largest U.S. vision insurer by membership. The acquisition is an approximately $1.675 billion, all-cash transaction.
This transaction is targeted to close in the fourth quarter of 2020, subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Once the transaction is finalized, MetLife’s existing consumers will gain access to Versant Health’s provider network, which is one of the largest in the industry.
Founded in 1868, MetLife is a financial service company that provides insurance, annuities, employee benefits, and asset management. MetLife has operations in more than 40 markets globally and holds leading positions in the United States, Japan, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
