Massachusetts To Add Substance Abuse Options For Pregnant Women

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health will provide $1.75 million to fund new options for pregnant and post-partum women who are dealing with substance abuse disorders. The monies will fund a new 17-bed residential treatment facility in Pittsfield; a new 15-bed program in Salisbury for women, including some in the criminal justice system; and the continuation of a 28-bed program in Lowell specifically for women ages 18-25.

All of the programs are planned to be operational by June, 2017. Approximately 240 women per year are expected to be served by the three programs.
