Peer-to-peer transportation services organization Lyft is partnering with Medicare Advantage (MA) plans from Humana and Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) to offer non-emergency medical transporation (NEMT) to the members of those plans. Additionally, Lyft will begin including certain Humana MA plans in its transporation offerings through an enhanced partnership with NEMT provider organization LogistiCare.
The moves come in the wake of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently expanding tailored benefits for MA plans, echoing its announcement from last April that MA plans could begin including NEMT for consumers lacking reliable access to public or private transportation. Based off of its experience—as well as responses to a recent Lyft report—Lyft considers ridesharing to be the most cost-effective, reliable, and safe transportation option for consumers, and satisfies one of the main social determinants of health: access to care.
Lyft, Inc., offers ridesharing and peer-to-peer transportation services via an application. Since 1929, Blue Cross Blue Shield companies have provided health care coverage to consumers, offering a personalized approach to health care based on the needs of the communities where their members live and work. Humana Inc. is a for-profit American health insurance company that covers over 13 million customers in the United States.
