Jane Pauley, former NBC “Today Show” anchor and Indianapolis native, was back in Indiana for the grand opening of another community health center that bears her name, the Jane Pauley Community Health Centers. The new center becomes the 22nd Jane Pauley Community Health Center across five counties in Central Indiana. Fifteen are open to the general public; the others are school clinics.
According to Sharon McNeany, Ph.D., among those who are served at the Jane Pauley Community Health Centers, many individuals would not have access to medical, behavioral, or dental services. Additionally, according to Ms. Pauley, the need for the type of health care provided by the Jane Pauley Community Health Centers is pertinent in this region, where access to health care is often not met.
The first Jane Pauley Community Health Center opened in 2009 in partnership with Warren Township schools and Community Health Network, and the centers provide health care to anyone, insurance or not. Sixty percent of health care consumers that go to the centers have Medicaid. Twenty percent of health care consumers have some commercial insurance; ten percent have Medicare. The final ten percent walk in with no health insurance coverage.
The Jane Pauley Community Health Center, Inc. offers comprehensive health care to the communities served, regardless of someone’s ability to pay. The health centers offer primary health care, dental, and behavioral health services for adults and children. Services include preventive care and annual exams, well-child checks, acute care, and certain procedures. The health centers also focus on the management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiac disease, and depression.
