Highmark Withdraws From 2017 PPACA Marketplace In 27 Pennsylvania Counties

Highmark Inc. is canceling individual Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) health plans in 27 PA counties for 2017, affecting 70% of the insurer's PPACA members. The move allows alternative companies to assume the affected consumers, however it requires that the affected consumers choose a new plan, and potentially new physicians, if they want to stay insured.

Highmark cites the lack of government assistance to stabilize losses in the state due to the PPACA as the reason for discontinuing their service. The company plans to leave an additional 17 Pennsylvania counties in 2017, leaving the University of Pittsburgh . . .
