Geisinger Health System (Geisinger) and Highmark Health (Highmark) recently announced they are launching a joint venture community-based clinical network. The new non-profit health care organization creates new facilities that aim to improve access to health care in a four-county region of north-central Pennsylvania.
A key component of the collaboration will be the utilization of existing Geisinger facilities in Clinton, Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga counties, with possible expansion of the value-based model to additional locations in the future. Included in the effort will also be the construction of a two-story facility in Lock Haven, which will include a walk-in urgent care center and both pediatric and adult primary care, among other services. Additionally, a three-story 120,000 square-foot hospital will be constructed in Willamsport, providing acute care, emergency, and routine care. For the improvement of already existing facilities and services, the two organizations will also commit more than $100 million toward facility improvement, development, and expansion of services.
Geisinger is an integrated health services organization widely recognized for its innovative use of the electronic health record (EHR) and the development of innovative care delivery. Highmark Health serves nearly 50 million Americans through its organizations in health insurance, health care delivery, post-acute care management solutions, managed vision care, and other health services.
